Smartrail is our fully agnostic OEM solution that is installed in underground rail bound mining operations utilising trains to transport ore. Smartrail™ is both a tracking and weighing solution with the primary goal of optimising production. The objective of the system is to increase tonnes, improve grade and reduce costs by providing management with quality information for improved decision making.
Before the digitisation of underground production information, it took between 8 and 24 hours for hopper tipping information to surface. Due to it being difficult to pinpoint underperformance, managing shifts or sections in real time proved to be challenging.
Smartrail provides live underground production figures on surface to reduce the duration between issues or opportunities and salient decisions. Smartrail facilitates the migration from traditional reactive management to proactive management.
Realtime dashboards and views are available on monitors, laptops, tablets and mobile devices. Automated reports which are easily configured can be sent via email or Telegram. The type of report and frequency is selected by the employee as per their requirement.
Smartrail records from which box each hopper is loaded, the weight of the ore loaded into the hopper, and at which exact tip the hopper dumped ore. All the events are time stamped. Monitoring occurs continuously without human intervention.
Smartail groups the locomotives with the correct hoppers to form trains. Production information is therefore not only available at box and hopper level, but also at train level. This data is further aggregated to show production information at half-levels, levels and entire shafts/declines in real time.
The affordable system makes use of in-house developed technology that is successfully installed on dozens of underground rail bound mines.
The data generated with the hardware creates endless reporting possibilities. Have a look at the Smartrail Data Experience page to understand what is available.
Sophisticated diagnostic tools have been developed for Smartrail, which enables the technicians to monitor key health points from the surface.
Some insights include:
By using these diagnostic views the technician is able to plan and perform maintenance much more efficiently. It increases the system uptime and data quality significantly.
